About the HostJanet A. Davis Janet Ann Davis was born in Kingston, Jamaica, into very meager beginnings. One of six children to Edward and Veta Davis, Janet always had big dreams. At age 12, Mom immigrated to the United States in search of a prosperous future for her family. Janet soon took on the role of mom, making sure homework was done and dinner put on the table. Her budding interest in cooking sprouted. Three years later the Davis clan was U.S. bound. Janet left for College in 1991 to attend SUNY New Paltz in upstate New York where she majored in Communications and Media. She joined the Caribbean Student Organization and began treating friends to her spicy Jamaican dishes. Eventually she became known as “Jamaican Jerk Chicken”, partly because of her flavorful dishes but as much for her “saucy tongue.” Janet went on to receive her B.A. in 1996 then on to Temple University where she earned a Masters degree in Communications and Theater. Soon after she landed a job at Bloomberg Television, first as a Human Resource Rep, then later as a Video Editor for Bloomberg’s budding financial news department. Janet stayed with Bloomberg for 12 years in a number of roles. During her tenure she gave birth to her only child Robert Allen in April 2003. It was then that she came to the realization that she needed more for herself and her family. Although formal education took her on a path to broadcast television, her journey to becoming a TV Chef was just beginning. Never before has her fire for cooking blazed so brightly. Janet started her catering company Scotch Bonnets Restaurant & Catering in June 2004. She did small events, festivals, and fairs. Just about anything to get her name into the community. She soon began teaching classes at a local kitchen appliance store. In 2007 she successfully pitched a 5-minute cooking show “The Pepper Pot” to PBS station WYBE, now MiND TV. Today Janet continues to pursue her culinary career, teaching cooking classes at the Kitchen Kapers in Moorestown, NJ, publishing a monthly newsletter, and catering special events. Her recent appearance on Fox-Philly only solidifies her as an up and coming TV Chef and on-air personality, definitely one to watch in the coming months and year. |
