About the HostJanet A. Davis Janet Ann Davis was born in Kingston, Jamaica, into meager beginnings. One of six children to Edward and Veta, Janet always had big dreams. In 1988 at the age of 15, Janet along with her family immigrated to the United States. In 1991 Janet left Bronx, NY to attend college at SUNY New Paltz in upstate New York. There she majored in Communications and Media, joined the Caribbean Student Organization and began treating friends to her spicy Jamaican dishes. She became known as “Jamaican Jerk Chicken”, partly because of her flavorful dishes but as much for her “saucy tongue.” Janet went on to earn a Bachelors of Arts in 1996 and later a Masters degree in Communications and Theater from Temple University. Janet landed her first major job at Bloomberg, L.P. in Skillman, New Jersey as a Human Resource Representative. After three years in HR Janet accepted a Video Editor position in Bloomberg’s budding New York City television department. In April of 2003 Janet gave birth to her only child Robert Allen. Robbie brought clarity, and with it the realization that dreams of a big TV career overtime had been pushed aside. After months of soul searching, Janet decided it was time to do what she was passionate about; cooking. In June of 2004 she started Scotch Bonnets Restaurant & Catering, an off-premise catering company specializing in authentic Jamaican cuisine. In 2006 she began teaching cooking classes at the Kitchen Kapers in Moorestown, New Jersey. She soon landed an opportunity to do a cooking show for a local PBS station. In 2007 Janet hosted and produced “The Pepper Pot” on WYBE. When WYBE re-launched as MiND-TV, “The Pepper Pot: Curry Chicken” segment was the first show aired. Today Chef Janet is a local celebrity throughout New Jersey and the Philadelphia region. Chef Janet has made numerous appearances on NBC-10, FOX-Philly, and has been featured in the Burlington County Times. Janet currently serves as President-Elect of the National Association of Women Business Owners of Southern New Jersey (NAWBO-SJ) and is the Regional Media Chef for Cabot Creamery Cooperative. |
